“Cartelizing Taxes: Understanding the OECD’s Campaign Against ‘Harmful Tax Competition’,” documents the transformation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) from its “initial focus on finding solutions to problems that impeded international economic activity” into an organization chiefly concerned with enabling a few high-tax countries to collect revenues at the expense of other, lower tax, countries.

Congressional Hearing Highlights Destructive Impact of Job-Killing IRS Regulation

A Subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing Thursday on a proposed IRS regulation to require reporting of nonresident alien deposit interest information. Such interest is not taxed under US law, and requiring its reporting would drive away much needed foreign capital, while providing zero benefit to the US economy or American taxpayers.

Coalition for Tax Competition Urges End to Taxpayer Subsidies for Paris-Based OECD

In a letter released today, the Coalition for Tax Competition asked members of Congress to cut the $100 million taxpayer subsidy to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Citing the OECD’s record as an opponent of tax competition, the letter argues that US taxpayers should not be funding an organization which works against their interests by promoting a big government agenda.

CF&P Letters to Treasury and Congress Call for Cost-Benefit Analysis, Repeal of FATCA

In a pair of letters sent to Treasury and Congressional leadership, the Center for Freedom and Prosperity (CF&P) has once again asked Congress to repeal the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and for Treasury to conduct a cost-benefit analysis. While CF&P welcomes the recent IRS announcement that FATCA will not be put into force at the beginning of 2013 as originally scheduled, the announcement shows recognition on the part of the IRS of the heavy regulatory burden that would be placed on foreign financial institutions.
