The All-Time Leftist Hypocrisy Award?

by Dan Mitchell | Jun 8, 2026

I’ve generally thought the world’s biggest hypocrites are the bureaucrats at the International Monetary Fund and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. They relentlessly push for higher taxes on everyone else while they get tax-free incomes.

Though they do face competition.

For instance, I’ve written about American politicians who fight school choice while sending their own kids to private schools.

And the other American politicians (sometimes actually the same ones) who push for higher taxes and class warfare while aggressively protecting their own income from the IRS. Heck, even their spouses play the game.

And don’t forget the green hypocrites, both in America and elsewhere.

But I think we now have an example of hypocrisy that will forever be at the top of the list.

Here are some excerpts from a story in GB News by Lewis Henderson.

Lewis Hamilton has called for a wealth cap despite living in Monaco to avoid paying tax in the UK. The F1 star, who is dating Kim Kardashian with a net worth of £1.27billion, feels the gap between the rich and the poor is growing. “One of the things that I struggle with every day is that there is such a disparity between the wealthy and the poor,” Hamilton told Jay Shetty. “When you drive around LA there’s still so many people living on the streets. You shouldn’t be able to have billions. “I think there should be a limit to how much you can have because there’s enough to go around for everyone.” Hamilton is one of the highest-paid athletes in sports, being worth an estimated £412million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

This is normally where I add my analysis to a column.

In this case, however, other people have made all the points I would make.

Such as this from @joshxhowie.

Or this from @patrickbetdavid.

And let’s add these jabs from @CaLavera437.

Last but not least, here’s some appropriate analysis from @exRAF_AL.

Actually, I will add my two cents in this conclusion.

In the absence of additional data, I suspect Mr. Hamilton simply made a dumb mistake.

I’m sure he realizes he is fabulously wealthy and I’m guessing he decided to deflect potential hostility with his comment. But he didn’t realize how foolish and hypocritical he would look (much as I would probably look like a clown if I made comments something where I have no knowledge…such as auto racing).

But I reserve the right to strongly condemn him in the future if I subsequently find out he actually is a champagne socialist/limousine leftist/caviar communist.
