CF&P Calls for Investigation into SEC Over False Bitcoin ETF News, Gensler Hacking Claims
(Washington, D.C., Tuesday, January 9, 2024) In response to today’s events in which the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s account on X was allegedly compromised and used to post false news of approval for bitcoin ETFs, CF&P is calling on Congress to investigate the SEC and its Chair Gary Gensler.
Vice President Brian Garst released the following statement:
“If the claim by Chair Gensler that the SEC’s X account was compromised is accurate, it reflects an astonishing level of incompetence by an agency that claims the mantle of investor protector and has engaged in lawless and arrogant paternalism when it comes to cryptocurrency markets.
Unfortunately, given the level of dishonesty from the SEC to which we have become accustomed during Gensler’s tenure, it cannot be taken on faith that the hacking claim is accurate. Congress must get to the bottom of what’s going on at the SEC and demand new, competent leadership at the agency.”
