New CF&P Video Explains that Vouchers,
not Bureaucratic Rationing, Are Best Way to
Fix Bankrupt Medicare System
(Washington, D.C., Tuesday, May 17, 2011) A new video released today by the Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation (CF&P) explains that giving vouchers to future seniors is the best way to solve Medicare’s fiscal crisis. Narrated by Dan Mitchell, a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute, the video is entitled, “Saving Medicare: Free Market Reforms Are Better than Bureaucratic Rationing.”
By giving an insurance voucher to every eligible person beginning in 2021, seniors would get a health system similar to the one used by Members of Congress. Not only would seniors thus be spared from bureaucratic rationing (colloquially called death panels), but the health care system as a whole would be improved by reducing the third-party-payer problem.

“Medicare’s annual budget is currently more than half a trillion dollars,” noted CF&P Foundation President Andrew Quinlan, “and it is expected to grow to more than $900 billion over the next ten years.” He added, “Any long-term solution to the current fiscal crisis necessarily means reforming Medicare.”
Dan Mitchell, the video’s narrator, observed that “Vouchers are a two-for-one deal. Not only do they fix Medicare’s fiscal black hole, but they also help solve the primary problem in the health care market – the third-party-payer problem – by letting seniors control health care dollars.”
Executive Summary
This Center for Freedom and Prosperity video explains how a “premium-support” plan would solve Medicare’s fiscal crisis and improve the overall healthcare system. This voucher-based system also would protect seniors from bureaucratic rationing.
