CF&P Announces Winners of
2010 Free Market Video Contest
(Washington, D.C., Thursday, March 10, 2011) The Center for Freedom and Prosperity Foundation (CF&P) has selected the winners of its first annual free market video contest. The contest seeks to identify, encourage, and reward the “new media” policy entrepreneurs with the most compelling messages for liberty.
With entries from dozens of people from numerous countries, the contest successfully motivated individuals across the globe to speak out in their own way for economic freedom.
Celebrity judge and George Mason University economics professor, columnist, radio talk show host and author, Dr. Walter E. Williams was joined by Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute, Richard Rahn of the Institute for Global Economic Growth and Andrew Quinlan of the Center for Freedom and Prosperity in judging the videos.
The winning video, entitled “Lilliputian Liberty,” makes a powerful case for decentralization. It describes the hypothetical United States of Lilliput, where Lilliputians learn that centralized decision-making by government results in unhappiness and conflict. Submitted on behalf of the University of Virginia’s Young Americans for Liberty chapter by John Woods and Ian Downie, the video’s creators will be awarded the $1,000 first prize.

Free Market Video Contest (2010)
“We are pleased with the result of our video contest,” said CF&P President Andrew Quinlan. “We look forward to growing participation in the future, and expect even more great videos demonstrating the importance of economic liberty. New media is increasingly important in public policy education, and it is the next generation that must be most prepared to advance the twin causes of freedom and prosperity,” he concluded.
Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute remarked that, “Contestants displayed a lot of creativity, both in terms of production and concepts. It was very difficult to pick finalists, much less select the top three.”
All entrants demonstrated a unique appreciation of economic liberty, but only eight – the top 3 videos plus 5 honorable mentions – could be awarded recognition.
