Low-tax jurisdictions are facing heavy pressure on multiple fronts. The G20, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United Nations, the European Union, and even the United States are pursuing projects aimed at compelling other jurisdictions into adopting anti-competitive tax policies.
The G20 and OECD’s work on BEPS has been exposed as a backdoor attack on tax competition, the UN continues to flirt with global tax plans, the EU is reviving blacklists for low-tax jurisdictions, and the United States plows ahead with its plan to use FATCA to strong-arm the globe into enforcing unreasonable tax demands.
The fight back begins now.
On Thursday, November 19th, representatives will meet in Panama to discuss how to protect their nations from global tax bullies. Speaking on behalf of CF&P will be the organization’s Chairman and Cato Institute Senior Fellow, Dan Mitchell (“Next Steps in the War Against International Financial Centers”), and President Andrew Quinlan (“The Impact of the 2016 US Elections on the Battle to Preserve Tax Competition, Financial Privacy and Fiscal Sovereignty”). Additional speakers will provide the perspective from low-tax jurisdictions and how they are reacting to international pressure.
